Hy Anzell
Hy Anzell’s memorable character work often adds subtle, grounded moments to films that mix humor and humanity. He’s perhaps best known for his role as Mr. Green in Woody Allen’s Deconstructing Harry, where his understated presence complements the film’s sharp, self-reflective comedy. Beyond Allen’s work, Anzell’s performances in New York-centered stories capture a certain everyman quality marked by warmth and resilience. His knack for inhabiting supporting roles—often playing characters that feel both familiar and quietly distinctive—makes these films richer without ever overshadowing the leads. While Deconstructing Harry highlights his capacity for deadpan delivery in a sharply written ensemble, Anzell’s other appearances reveal a steady ability to ground quirky or chaotic narratives with genuine humanity. His name may not be on every marquee, but his characters linger in the memory as vital threads woven through the fabric of classic American cinema.
