Billy, a young man in a small town, receives a mysterious creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas gift. He is given three strict rules to follow to keep the pet safe and manageable: no bright light, no water, and never feed it after midnight.

When Billy unknowingly breaks these rules, the Mogwai spawn sinister gremlins that quickly multiply and wreak havoc across the town. With chaos unfolding, Billy and his girlfriend Kate try to contain the mischievous creatures before the situation spirals further out of control.
