After hydrogen bomb tests disturb the ocean depths near the Mindanao Deep, a gigantic octopus mutated by radiation surfaces to menace the California coastline. Naval officer Commander Pete Mathews teams up with marine biologist Dr. Susan Drake to investigate unusual underwater disturbances and attacks threatening ships and coastal towns.

As the creature’s destructive path grows, military forces scramble to develop a strategy to stop it while dealing with limited knowledge of its extraordinary size and strength. The tension builds with the race against time to protect the population from further devastation along the shore.
