Bo “Bandit” Roberts, a charismatic race car driver, is hired to complete a daring run: transport a shipment of illegal beer from Texas to Atlanta within a strict 28-hour deadline. Driving a powerful black Pontiac Trans Am, Bandit takes on the challenge despite the risky nature of the mission and the watchful eyes of relentless law enforcement officers determined to stop him.

Along the way, Bandit persuades Carrie, a bride-to-be initially resistant to his plan, to join him on the journey. Together, they navigate treacherous roads and evade persistent pursuit by Sheriff Buford T. Justice, whose determination to capture Bandit adds a constant edge of tension. The race through multiple states becomes a high-speed chase full of humor, stunts, and unexpected detours as Bandit strives to deliver the cargo on time.
