Johnny Rico enlists in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military force engaged in a brutal conflict against a hostile arachnoid species known as the Bugs. Training to become a soldier on Earth and then deployed to distant planets, Rico advances through the ranks while facing the harsh realities of interstellar warfare.

Alongside comrades such as Dizzy Flores and Carmen Ibanez, Rico navigates challenges within the military and the battlefield. The story centers on their efforts to combat the relentless alien threat as humanity fights for survival across various extraterrestrial battlegrounds.
