Melanie Carmichael is a successful New York fashion designer engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor. However, her past complicates her future because she is still legally married to Jake, her high school sweetheart from Alabama, who refuses to grant her a divorce.

Determined to move on, Melanie returns to her hometown in Alabama to resolve the situation, facing the small-town life and people she left behind. Her visit reignites old tensions and forces her to confront the parts of her past she thought were long buried.
