The Black Hole (1979)

The USS Palomino returns to Earth after an unsuccessful 18-month mission seeking extraterrestrial life when its crew discovers the long-missing USS Cygnus near a black hole. The Cygnus remains inexplicably intact despite the black hole’s immense gravitational pull, drawing the Palomino’s team into a closer investigation.

The ship is commandeered by Dr. Hans Reinhardt, a reclusive scientist accompanied by a massive robot. As the Palomino crew meets Reinhardt and explores the Cygnus, their initial fascination gives way to unease as they uncover his unusual objectives and the formidable dangers tied to the black hole’s presence.
