In 1831 Edinburgh, Gray works as a cab driver while secretly involved in the illicit business of grave robbing. Once a medical student himself, Gray was caught and punished for his crimes, but harbors a deep resentment toward Dr. MacFarlane, who managed to avoid prosecution.
