The Night of the Hunter (1955)

During the Great Depression in rural West Virginia, two children, John and Pearl, are caught in a dangerous situation after learning the location of a hidden fortune left by their deceased father. Their lives become threatened when Harry Powell, a charismatic yet sinister preacher, arrives with intentions to find the money for himself. Powell presents himself as a man of God, but his true nature soon becomes clear as he relentlessly pursues the children.

With their mother absent and no trusted adults to turn to, John and Pearl must evade Powell’s manipulative and menacing advances. Along the way, they encounter Rachel Cooper, a stern but kind-hearted woman who may offer them protection. The tension grows as the preacher’s obsession intensifies, setting the stage for a tense and suspenseful chase through the quiet Appalachian countryside.
