The Tingler (1959)
Dr. Warren Chapin, a pathologist, investigates a strange organism living on the human spinal cord that activates when a person experiences fear. He believes that this creature, which he calls The Tingler, is the cause of sudden death from fright unless a person screams to release the tension. To test his theory, Chapin works with a deaf-mute woman who cannot scream, putting his findings and her safety at the center of his experiments.
As Chapin delves deeper into the mystery of The Tingler, he faces the challenge of controlling something unseen and dangerous lurking within the human body. The story builds on the tension between scientific curiosity and the threat posed by fear itself, highlighting the struggle to understand a bizarre and deadly phenomenon.
