The Comedy of Terrors (1963)
In a dilapidated funeral parlor struggling to stay afloat, the desperate undertaker faces a looming deadline to pay a year’s overdue rent. With no recent business and bills piling up, he hatches a darkly comic plan to increase his clientele by hastening the arrival of new bodies. His schemes to drum up customers involve a series of increasingly absurd and bungled attempts, bringing unintended chaos to his grim profession.
Assisted by his nervous assistant, he navigates a series of misadventures that disrupt the quiet town’s routine. Encounters with shady characters and bizarre situations highlight the strange balance between farce and menace in his world. The awkward partnership and their misfiring plots create a blend of horror and humor set against the backdrop of the funeral home and its quirky cast of residents.
