Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton escape the confines of their walled city and encounter a larger world beyond the fence. Upon venturing outside, they are captured by the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, a secretive organization that controls society through genetic manipulation and strict regulations.

As they come to understand the Bureau’s influence and motives, Beatrice and Tobias face new challenges that question their beliefs and alliances. Their journey forces them to navigate dangerous loyalties while uncovering unsettling truths about the world they thought they knew.
