Brazil (1985)

Sam Lowry works as a low-level bureaucrat trapped in a dystopian society ruled by an overbearing government. He regularly escapes his dull routine through vivid daydreams where he is a heroic figure rescuing a mysterious woman. When a mix-up leads to the wrongful arrest of an innocent man instead of the elusive terrorist Harry Tuttle, Sam’s curiosity draws him into the investigation.

Meeting the woman from his fantasies, Sam becomes entangled in a confusing maze of mistaken identities, endless paperwork, and oppressive surveillance. As he tries to help her, he navigates a rigid system that blurs the line between reality and illusion, exposing the dark absurdities of the bureaucratic state.
