Johnny Blaze, a skilled stunt motorcyclist, makes a desperate pact with the demon Mephistopheles to save his ailing father, sacrificing his own soul in the process. This decision forces him to leave behind Roxanne Simpson, his devoted childhood love, as he struggles with the dark consequences.

Years later, Johnny reencounters Roxanne, now an ambitious reporter, while Mephistopheles offers him a chance at redemption by becoming the Ghost Rider, a fiery supernatural entity bound to punish evil.
