In 1927 Hollywood, silent film star Don Lockwood faces a major challenge as the film industry shifts to talking pictures. While navigating this new era, he develops feelings for Kathy Selden, a spirited chorus girl with ambitions of her own.
Meanwhile, Don and his co-star Cosmo Brown grapple with the technical difficulties and uncertainties of sound filmmaking, complicated further by the antics of Don’s distrustful screen partner Lina Lamont. Their efforts to adapt to changing times threaten both their careers and personal lives.
