In 1976 Argentina, a disillusioned English teacher named Tom Michell finds himself navigating the tensions and unrest gripping the country. While working under the strict supervision of Headmaster Buckle, Tom’s routine life suddenly shifts when he discovers an injured penguin he names Juan Salvador. Amid the growing violence, Tom’s growing connection with the penguin offers a surprising source of comfort and purpose.

As Tom cares for Juan Salvador, their bond deepens, revealing moments of warmth and hope during a turbulent time. Surrounded by characters such as Maria and Tapio, and set against the backdrop of political chaos and uncertainty, Tom’s relationship with the penguin challenges him to reconnect with compassion in a world marked by fear and suspicion.
